SR-22 Insurance
An SR-22 is a document of proof of financial responsibility. An SR-22 is sometimes required to be carried if one is caught driving without insurance, driving while intoxicated, repeating traffic offenses, or if their license is suspended or revoked. After a specified time period of usually three years, the SR-22 status expires. During this time period, SR-22 carriers must hold continuous insurance or risk having their licenses suspended again.Get an Instant Auto Insurance Quote »
Filing periods differ from state to state. If an SR-22 holder moves to a different state, they must fulfill the filing period of their former state. Some states including Delaware, Kentucky, Minnesota, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Pennsylvania do not require SR-22s. However, if an SR-22 holder moves to one of these states, the SR-22 filing period of their former state still applies. Some states also require a fee to file an SR-22.
